Swamp Angels was the nickname of the Bob Jones College sports teams on the Florida campus, 1928-1933, and to a lesser extent, of Bob Jones students generally. Bob Jones Sr. did not choose the name, and it is a likely reference (perhaps humorous, or even mocking) to a regional epithet for mosquitoes: if one were bitten by a mosquito, he had been “kissed by a swamp angel.”
