Born in southeast Alabama, only fifteen miles from the birthplace of Bob Jones Sr., Eunice Hutto graduated from the Women’s College of Montgomery (later Huntingdon College) in 1923 (at age 18) and earned a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Alabama in 1929. Westminster College conferred an honorary doctorate in 1939. Hutto joined the BJC faculty in 1928 and was appointed dean of the college in 1932. She was possibly the first female chief academic officer of a coeducational college in the United States. She resigned in 1941 to marry Jefferson Davis Morelock, and Bob Jones Sr. named her to the Board of Trustees. A Bob Jones Academy building is named in her honor.
